10 things that are great about Amaysim’s SIM Only plans

For people after the best unlimited price plan deal, who already have their own mobile phone, there’s only one answer. For years now, we have consistently recommended Amaysim’s Unlimited Plan

  • It’s a genuinely unlimited plan ( for calls and SMS in Oz )
For voice and text in Australia, the Amaysim plan offers unlimited use – and all for $44.90 per month. Of course, the plan is subject to fair usage but unless you’re talking 24 x 7 – so long as your needs are those of a legitimate Australian Consumer, you’ll be fine.
  • 5 GB of data is a lot
That’s a lot of data. I use a lot of data on my mobile. I stream the news on the way in to the office, I download tons of email from a variety of accounts every day with attachments. I use my mobile as a tethered modem all the time to update the Whatphone site with the articles I’ve written. And I go nowhere near 5GB of data a month.
  • Amaysim use the Optus 3G network
If you’re not used to the idea, it can seem funny. However, Amaysim have access to the entire Optus 3G network. Amaysim buy a lot of minutes in bulk from Optus and get a discount. Then they sell those minutes to you at a cheaper rate. It really is that simple.
  • You are taking virtually no risk
OK, you’re going to like Amaysim. Everyone does. But what if, something strange happens and you fall out of love ? You leave. That’s it. No sticky contracts which mean you have to pay more to say goodbye. No embarrassing gym interview which makes you feel so awkward you end up staying. When you sign up to Amaysim, you are taking virtually no risk.
  • Amaysim have great service
Recent research showed that Amaysim had the best customer service in the industry. A staggering 96% of Amaysim’s customers would recommend them to a friend.I actually put my girlfriend on the plan 6 months ago with an old phone. I asked her for her thoughts on the service and she said she loved it ! The call center is based in Australia ( Chatswood in Sydney ) and they even send you an email whenever they debit your account!
  • Lots of people use Amaysim and countries like Amaysim
As we’ve said already, one in six people in Australia already use an mobile virtual network operators like Amaysim to get access to the phone networks at a reduced price. Amaysim are Australia’s fastest growing and are already one of the biggest of this kind. Amaysim added more people to their network than Optus or Vodafone in the last quarter ! They have nearly as many customers as Virgin Mobile Australia who started in Australia over a decade ago.If you choose Amaysim, you’re in good company !
  • No bill shock ever again
We know how much people worry about their mobile bills. Everyone we know has had a neck rubbing moment just after they’ve opened their post and cracked the envelope from their telecommunications provider. Do you know anyone who has not had a bill for more than $100 from their telco for services ? We do – the people we’ve recommended the Amaysim plan to. The best part of having an Amaysim plan is that you never have to worry again about blowing your cap.
  • 13 & 18 numbers are included so fewer surprises on the bill
One of the things that really catches people out is that they buy a cap and it doesn’t include 13 numbers or 18 numbers. Then they have to call one of them when they’re out and about and they end up on call to a call center for 45 minutes getting charged an outrageous out of cap rate for it ! Not with Amaysim !
  • Awards – Amaysim have won heaps of them
Money Magazine has awarded them twice for having the best unlimited and as you go plans! What more do you want !? As usual, if you have feedback or questions, why not drop us a line through the ‘get in touch’ section of our site. We’d love to hear from you. And if you’d like more reviews of plans, we’ll maybe we will!
  • No contract required
Amaysim do not require a contract. In the telco industry, this type of plan is called an On Account plan. In fact, it’s no more of a commitment to the Amaysim company than a prepaid SIM is. You sign up, activate online and you give them your details – credit card or bank account. Then they charge you every month for the service. But, you can cancel any time. Unlike prepaid, you’ll never run out of credit when you need it most. And unlike a contract, if you want out, that’s fine. Give them a ring and end the contract. No termination fees, no arguments, you’re done.

What’s not so good about Amaysim ?

International calls – Are charged for

One note in the hope it will help : Remember, if you go outside of Australia and call then you will be charged for that. Read the terms: As with all plans, it’s always prudent to ensure that you read the terms and conditions before you sign up. Just because we love the plan doesn’t mean it’s necessarily right for you .But – if you are an average person and you decide this is the right plan for you then you are very unlikely to get a shock when your bill lands in your email tray – ever again !

Summary – if you talk, text or use a lot of data, Amaysim might just be right for you

One in Six Australians choose a company like Amaysim. Most of the time, you can get the best deal by buying the phone outright and adding the SIM plan yourself.

SIM Only plans make up the majority of all the network connections the phone companies get. And you can get the best deals on SIM Only plans if you choose an Mobile virtual network operator company like Amaysim. Research from August 2014 by Cantar showed that a huge one in six Australians are doing just that. That’s more than 3 million people !

The reason isn’t hard to see. MVNOs are network resellers. They offer you access to Optus’, Telstra’s or Vodafone’s networks. And they charge you a fraction of what the major phone companies usually do.

It’s rare that things are this clear cut. But if you want Australia’s best unlimited plan, trust us. This is it.

Common questions

Can I take my number with me when I move to Amaysim ?

Yes you can. The process is called porting. It’s free of charge, Amaysim will do it for you when you check out with them online. Usually it takes a few hours ( something like 3 whenever I do it. ) It can take longer and we’ve written a lot about it because this question is so common.

How does Amaysim’s Unlimited Plan compare to other plans ?

Amaysim’s unlimited plan is the best unlimited plan in Australia. However, it’s not right for everyone. If you would like to, you can compare Amaysim’s price and inclusions against other SIM Only plans

What if I want heaps, but I really don’t need unlimited ?

Not everyone needs the peace of mind that an unlimited plan will provide. If you text and talk like a more regular person – that is, you make up to 10 calls per day and only need 1.5 GB of data, we recommend Vaya.

What if I want access to the Vodafone network ?

The Optus network is not everyone’s cup of tea. Some have had bad experiences in the past and don’t want a repeat. We can understand that decision and we’re here to support you in finding the right plan for you, not lead you down a path that isn’t right for you. If you would like access to the Vodafone network, we recommend Cmobile.

What if I want access to the Telstra network ?

Cmobile are one of the few Australian phone companies who offer you a choice of the networks you go with. If you would like access to the Telstra network, choose a CMobile Blue plan. Cmobile are another Australian MVNO and they offer access to the Telstra 3G network at a fraction of the price you’ll get it from Telstra themselves.

How can I work out how much data I need ?

Low users – know they use virtually no data
They know who they are. They hardly surf and when they do, it’s a couple of times a month.

High users – Use heaps and they know it too:
They know who they are and they know what data they use. The top 20% of iPhone / other high end Smartphone users will go over 1.5GB – 2GB of data. They’re high users.

Medium users – Probably you – and this is a problem:
These guys are the ones with the problem. They don’t know how much they use. Does that sound like you ? If so, go Amaysim. Right now, you have to be in the top 1 per cent of mobile phone users to go over 5GB of data ( what Amaysim include in their plans. ) You can sleep easy that you’re not going to blow this allowance !

Will I get a handset with my plan ?

No, you won’t. For handsets, we recommend Kogan.  If you tie together your own deal, you’ll save yourself a lot of money over the next 2 years.

What if I take Amaysim and end up not liking them ?

The great thing about SIM Only plans is that you can change them as soon as you want. Your entire relationship with Amaysim ends when you stop paying them. If you have a bad experience, or even if you see a better deal from another provider which more meets your needs, you can exit your agreement with Amaysim by cutting the chord and stopping the payment.

Can I tether my phone using Amaysim ?

Yes you can ! It’s your data and you can use it as much as you want to. In fact, we’d venture to suggest that unless you do attach your phone to your laptop to use the data, you won’t go anywhere near the 5GB which is included in the plan.
