Vodafone Australia’s Roaming Extension

Vodafone’s Red Roaming has been extended

Vodafone Australia has updated it’s Red International global roaming plan so that for AU $5 per day you can make international phone calls, send text message and use data, while you’re overseas,  using your pre-existing phone plan. The changes apply to what is now a long and growing list of countries. 46 of Australia’s most common holiday destinations are covered.

Less worrying, more holidaying

The benefit of Vodafone’s changes are of course that they enable customers to worry less about how much the phone bill will cost when returning home from travel, such as on a business trip or vacation.

Quick facts about Vodafone’s announcement

  • There are now a total of 46 countries that are included in the Red International global roaming plan including the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia.
  • This extension of Vodafone’s roaming services will start in April 2014, allowing existing customers to change their plans to include the roaming extension free of charge.
  • All new customers who do not have pre-existing plans will be automatically enrolled in this new plan.

What if I’m going to a country which isn’t on the list ?

Although there are only 46 countries that are covered in the AU $5 per day plan, there is another option for phones calls for countries that are not included – Vodafone’s standard roaming rates.

For AU $1 per minute and AU $1 per megabyte of data, customers can use their phones to roam in more than 200 countries such as Canada and Fiji along with many others.

This makes a 10 minute call home to your family only AU $10, which is still much, much better than this sort of roaming charge would have been. It wasn’t so long ago these charges were jaw dropping.

The flat rate of AU $1 per megabyte of data offers a large reduction in price for the data charges, which is definitely a good deal for travellers that want to continue to have access to their data plan.

Who will like Vodafone’s new roaming rates ?

Vodafone’s roaming plan is particularly targeting travellers who will need to have constant use of their mobile phones no matter where they are. This plan is also much more affordable than plans of the past, where it was just not worth it to bring your cell phone abroad, much less even thinking of texting your using your data plan.

Vodafone, customers will be able to better calculate how much their bill will be when they get back from their trip, so there is no guessing about how much that 10 minute phone call home will be.

Overall, anyone who is looking into a new phone plan and needs international roaming should check out Vodafone, with newly extended roaming plans, to save some money.
