3 Mobile Australia – The merger
3 merged with Vodafone in Australia. Together, they form VHA – Vodafone Hutchison Australia. The merger took place back in 2010. New mobile phones and plans are no longer sold under the 3 Mobile brand. The nearest equivalent is Vodafone’s plans. If you’re an existing ‘3’ customer on a cap or plan, right now, you can stay on it. Over time, VHA are slowly merging 3 mobile and Vodafone Australia. Much of what were 3 brand sales have already moved under the Vodafone brand.
High street stores are now co-branded Vodafone and 3 Mobile. Similarly, the online store is co branded Vodafone and ‘3’. VHA has had bad press, concerning it’s network and customer satisfaction. Even within VHA, rumors are that they know it will take years to fix the damage.
3 Mobile Australia – Network Quality
Canstar Blue offer independent customer satisfaction research which still includes the experience 3 mobile customers have had. This research was conducted in July 2012. It shows Vodafone Australia, Optus and Virgin Mobile all receiving 3 stars out of 5 for their network quality. 
In August 2012, ‘3’ customers were moved to the Vodafone network. It must be said that Canstar’s network quality statistics are more generous than some reviews of the Vodafone network.
3 Mobile Australia – Customer Satisfaction
Things are slightly better for ‘3’Customer satisfaction. Roy Morgan conducted independent research for Australian telcos between March and August 2012.
