Note: Vodafone no longer offers free roaming for Aussies. But, it still has a cheap $5 daily add-on for international roaming, including visits across the ditch.
$5 per day for data in New Zealand: a pretty good deal
Vodafone’s roaming works a little differently. Rather than adding-on extra data, you use your phone plan as normal for $5 extra per day. You’ll only pay extra charges if you go over your data limit, which is recharged at $5 for 1GB.
If you don’t use your phone for calls, messages or data for the day, you won’t be charged the $5 roaming fee. Your day resets every 24 hours.
You can use Vodafone’s roaming facility in over 100 countries as an add-on for all postpaid SIM only plans. Once you’ve opted in via the app, all you need to do is start using your phone when you arrive at your destination.

Alternatives to international roaming
While Vodafone’s deal is pretty good, other options might work out cheaper if you think you’ll exceed your data limit while travelling. You can look at buying an eSIM with a plan provider from the country of origin. You can install the plan digitally and it’ll automatically connect when you arrive.
Or, you might like to compare other phone plans with international roaming. Just like Vodafone, other brands of phone providers include ways to use your phone overseas that might work out cheaper.
