You can get Disney+ for free with a Telstra plan
If you love Disney, Telstra have a new tempting offer for you. The giant telco is offering customers 12 months of Disney+ viewing for free on new mobile Telstra SIM plans and Home Internet offer. That’s around AU$120 worth of streaming at zero cost to you.
But of course, nothing is completely free – if you want to take advantage of Telstra’s latest offer, you’ll have to meet some requirements. We’ll tell you all about them in this post.
All you need to know about Telstra’s free Disney+ offer
New Telstra customers can now get a full year of Disney Plus free of charge when they sign up for eligible plans. The offer is available to new mobile SIM plan subscribers, as well as Home Internet and data plans.
However, not every plan qualifies you to take advantage of this generous new offer. Here’s a look at eligible Telstra plans:
- Upfront mobile plans – on Medium, Large and Extra Large plans
- Upfront internet plans – on Essential, Premium and Ultimate plans
- Internet plans – Unlimited and Premium plans
- Upfront data customers – Medium and Large plans
- 5G home internet customers
If you’re more interested in mobile plans, this means you’ll have to sign up for one of Telstra’s upfront plans in the $65 to $85 range, or data plans costing $55 and $85. You will also have to sign up for an eligible plan before March 28 to take advantage of the free 1 year of Disney+.
Also, if you already have an active Disney+ subscription, this offer doesn’t apply to you. However, Telstra have provided a way around that – you will have to cancel your current Disney+ subscription, and then sign up for your eligible Telstra plan and take advantage of the offer.
How to sign up for Telstra’s free year long Disney+ offer
Getting started with your free Disney+ offer is quite easy. Here are the steps:
- Step 1 – Sign up for any of the eligible Telstra mobile, Internet, or data plans that offer Disney+ for free.
- Step 2 – After you activate your plan, Telstra will send you an onboarding email within 72 hours, directing you to Telstra My Offers, where you can redeem your 12-months of free Disney+. Do this before March 28, otherwise you’ll miss out on the offer.
- Step 3 – After your offer has been redeemed, you’ll have to create your Disney+ account. The offer is only available to new or returning customers, so if you’re returning, then you can sign up with your previous Disney+ login which you canceled before.
If you’re interested in this offer, you’ll have to enter a valid credit card or PayPal account on file in order to activate your free 1 year Disney+ offer. You won’t be charged, of course, because it’s free. However, if you remain on Disney+ after your 12 months have elapsed, your credit card or PayPal account will be automatically charged the normal monthly fee to remain on Disney+. To avoid this, you can cancel your Disney+ subscription before the 12thmonth expires.
Is Telstra’s free 1 year Disney+ offer worth it?
Australians love Netflix, but Disney+ isn’t so far behind. Customers who like content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, National Geographic and more will have free access for a year. That means that if you’re a Star Wars fan, you can binge their shows for a year without worrying about paying anything at all.
However, it’s important to note that the free offer is only for Disney+ standard plan. If you want to watch newly released movies and shows that are offered on the Disney+ Premiere plan, you’ll have to pay extra charges.
Either way, Telstra’s free offer is actually worth a lot of money. Disney+ Standard plan costs AU$11.99 per month, which means you’re getting $119.99 worth of Disney+ completely free over the course of a year. For Disney fans, this is an attractive offer. For others, well, it’s entirely up to you, but free entertainment content for a year can’t hurt if you’re already planning on signing up for an eligible Telstra plan anyway.
Bottom line
Netflix is by far Australia’s most popular streaming service. But most people will find use in a Disney + subscription, and those with a family might find it indispensable. The dollar value of the deal is reasonable, and if it’s a cherry on top of a phone plan you were already going to buy, then of course you’re on to a winner. For those who weren’t already considering either the phone plan or a subscription to Disney +, think carefully. If you’re not going to use it, this free subscription shouldn’t sway your choice.
