Telstra prepaid SIM plans
Telstra is the largest telco in Australia, so if you’re looking for a prepaid SIM plan, they have a lot to offer. You’ll have access to a high-speed mobile network and the widest coverage in the country.
Telstra offers short, normal, and long-expiry prepaid plans. You can get a 7-day plan, or choose from one of the four 28-day expiry plans. These range in price from $39 to $65, with 15GB to 70GB of data. Telstra sometimes offers discounts for the first 3 recharges or bonus data.
You can pick up a prepaid SIM card at almost any supermarket, newsagent or service station in Australia. We’ll give you specifics below.
But, we wouldn’t be doing our job if we didn’t tell you that plenty of telcos offer better deals than Telstra. Many use the Telstra network, and some like Boost use the entire network so you’re getting the exact same coverage as Telstra at a cheaper price.
Want to see if there’s a better deal? Start here:
Where to find prepaid Telstra SIM cards
Telstra store
If you prefer shopping face to face, simply walk in to a Telstra store to purchase your prepaid SIM. You might also find some prepaid phones to go along with it if you want. If you’re a new customer, you can purchase a starter SIM card for $2, but prepaid starter SIM kits frequently include a SIM card for free along with your first recharge.
You can find your nearest Telstra store here, and you can even book an appointment to get personalised service and avoid the queue when you get to the store.
7-Eleven and Woolworths
You can also purchase your Telstra prepaid SIM from supermarkets and convenience stores. Two popular options are 7-Eleven and Woolworths, where you can purchase a Telstra prepaid SIM card for $2
Online
Perhaps your best option, though, is purchasing a Telstra prepaid starter SIM kit and prepaid phone from the Telstra website. That way, you don’t have to leave your home, and you can take advantage of the latest deals the telco has to offer.
And, of course, if you just want to purchase a Telstra prepaid SIM card alone without bundling in a recharge, you can get that online for just $2 as well.
Looking for a better deal than Telstra?
Telstra may be one of Australia’s oldest telcos, but it doesn’t always offer the best value. And, buying a SIM card in a store means you’re not seeing the full range of plans on the market (usually just the big brand names).
Online, you’ll find a huge range of smaller brand telcos that use the same networks as Optus, Vodafone and Telstra, but have great discounts, bonus data and cheaper plans overall. We suggest you take a quick look at our prepaid SIM plan comparison pages to see the current deals you can choose from.
If you’re prepared to wait a day and benefit from the convenience of having the prepaid SIM delivered to you rather than picking one up from a physical store, you’ll almost certainly get a better deal.
